Dear Stakeholder,

565313 A303 VRS Stakeholder Letter (26-07-2019)

A303 Forton/Longparish – Safety Barrier Replacement

In February 2019 we wrote to you to advise essential maintenance work would be taking place to replace corroded safety barrier along the A303 near Forton/Longparish.

We were then alerted to nearby nesting protected Kingfishers, and made a decision to postpone the works. Their scarcity means kingfishers are protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and it is illegal to take, kill or injure a kingfisher or its nest, eggs or young, or to intentionally disturb the birds during breeding season.

I can now confirm that the safety barrier replacement work has been rescheduled to start on Monday 12 August 2019, and is expected to take five weeks to complete.

For the safety of our workforce and customers, we will be closing the A303 eastbound carriageway from the A3093 Picket Twenty junction to the Barton Stacey junction overnight (between 9pm and 6am, Monday to Friday only) on the following dates:

  • Monday 12 August for three nights
  • Monday 19 August for four nights
  • Tuesday 27 August for four nights
  • Monday 9 September for five nights

A signed diversion will be in place from the A3093 Picket Twenty junction, north on the A3093, north on the A343 to Wash Common, then south on the A34 to re-joint the A303 at Bullington Cross.

During day-time hours throughout the scheme there will be narrow lanes on the A303 eastbound carriageway.

Please be aware that these works have been carefully programmed but are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances – please check the yellow signs placed in advance at the junction for confirmation of the closures dates/timings.

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption caused during our work; if  you have any questions, or if you’d like to know about our work please contact us on 0300 123 5000 or email info@highwaysengland.co.uk

Yours faithfully
